Custom Work - Upgrade your boat's Engine Room Lights
One of the most practical and cost effective upgrades you can make to your boat is to upgrade the engine room lighting. It is relatively cheap to do and the payback is immense. You must be sure to use fixtures that are made for wet areas with sealed and gasketed covers. Most boats we see here in marina have small 12V dome lights - simply inadequate for engine room inspections or working. The benefits of upgrading your boat's lighting are:
- Increase visibility of entire engine room
- Be able to spot potential problems not seen in dim lighting
- Safer for anyone working on the boat
- Do not have to run extension cords into the engine room when working
We still leave the 12 volt lighting in place to use away from the dock or when the generator is not running, but the power output of 110 volt florescent lighting just can't be beat for lighting up your engine room.
