Chesapeake Bay Weather

Sept 1, 2006

Among the "Ernesto" tropical storm preparations this week at Dickerson Harbor the 58' Eastbay, "Glacier Star" was hauled and put inside for storage. This boat weighed in at approximately 95,000 lbs.

Of the lifts we have on Trappe Creek, this one was constructed to handle the larger boats. Glacier Start was hauled using four straps and carried a short distance to the "hanger". Geoff Holmes, President of the Chesapeake Grand Banks Owners Association. Geoff often delivers boats along the coast for boat owners as well as Dickerson Harbor.

While waiting for the storm to clear lots of fiberglass polishing, bottom touch up, spur service and Prop Speed applications

Dickerson Harbor had virtually no storm surge in 2003 during Hurricane Isabelle but Oxford Yacht Agency experienced very high tides in Oxford.

Kilmarnock, VA

Stu Kramer, 49/89 "Joy Ann", called in to report high tides and very strong winds. Joy Ann is moored in protected Dymer Creek at anchor under the watchful eye of Joe Sarnowski. Stu indicated the winds are very gusty. The Garmin weather and hurricane tracking plotter on Eastbay 43/103 indicated the track of "Ernesto" to be very close to that of Isabelle in 2003. However, Ernesto is not expected to synchronize with the high tides. One of the ways Isabelle caused problems turned out to be that her speed and track not only drove water up the Bay but helped the water to very high levels as a result.

Jay Tull, 43/109 "Selah" called in reporting an expected storm surge at his home on Whitehall Creeeek The high tide in Annapolis is expected at midnight.
